B vitamins and hair loss have been clinically associated. The B vitamin group works to provide energy to the
body, maintains the normal functioning of your nervous system, helps keep your intestines and stomach working and
maintains the growth and health of your hair, skin, eyes, mouth and liver. Hair loss could be directly traced to
deficiency of this vitamin group. Dr. Ted Daly, professor in Dermatology at the Nassau University Medical Centre, a
dermatologist and an expert on hair loss stated that B vitamins, especially B12 should be part of every woman’s
diet, else she risks the health of her hair. Those risks include dull hair and diminished density, hair fall and
ultimately, hair loss. To combat these, eat a lot of B12 rich foods like poultry, eggs and meat.
Biotin is also a major element in the B vitamin and hair loss connection. Biotin, vitamin H or the
vitamin B7 has also been credited to healthy hair and nails. Anyone’s normal diet can suffice the dietary need to
maintain healthy hair and nails, but for restoration and regrowth, patients are recommended to take in supplements.
Other B vitamins that actively promote hair growth are the Pantothenic Acid (B5) and Niacin (B3). Good sources of
these essential vitamins are meat, fish, milk, brewer’s yeast, legumes, peanuts, potatoes and eggs.
The Folic Acid or the vitamin B9, which is associated with brain development of fetus, is also responsible
for adequate hair growth. Though present in ordinary foods like green vegetables, grain cereals, liver and yeast,
overcooking will diminish if not kill the Folic Acid in the food. It is best to eat your Folic Acid sources raw,
fresh or half-cooked. B6 or the Pyridoxine is also important in keeping your head full. The relationship between
this B vitamin and hair loss is relevant to the alcoholics. Alcoholic drinks are high in Pyridoxine Stress Hair Loss, but be aware that excessive intake of these B vitamin can cause
damaged nerves. Good sources of the Pyridoxine are brown rice, butter, organ meats, liver, fish, cereals and
soybeans.
