DHT Hormone & Hair Loss

DHT Hormone & Its Role In Hair Loss

Although there are many different reasons that people can suffer from hair loss, 95% of all hair loss problems have been scientifically proven to be caused by DHT Hormone. To learn more about DHT Hormone, its role in hair loss and what you can do to beat it, continue reading this article.

DHT Hormone is Dihydrotestosterone. DHT Hormone is produced when the male sex hormone Testosterone is metabolised. Although Testosterone is a male hormone, it is produced by men and women, in the ovaries (females only), adrenal glands and other tissues. The biological process which creates DHT Hormone occurs when Testosterone is combined with enzyme 5 Alpha Reductase. While DHT Hormone is completely natural, and actually necessary for the development of a healthy adult male, it has been proven to have links with hair loss problems.

DHT Hormone Binding

Human hair grows from what is called the hair follicle. DHT Hormone binds to receptors on the hair follicle. DHT Hormone builds up over time which causes the hair follicle to shrink.  This means that the hair does not receive proper nutrition and becomes weak. The damage that DHT hormone does to the hair follicle can eventually cause the hair follicle to become dormant and stop producing new hair growth. Hair becomes thinner and gradually forms bald patches particularly around the temples and crown. DHT Hormone also builds up into a waxy residue on the scalp which contributes to the hair loss.

There are a number of hair treatment products and programmes designed to deal with hair loss problems caused by DHT Hormone. It is best to consult your hair care and health advisers before beginning on any anti hair loss plan as they can help decide which is the best for you.

A healthy diet may not directly effect the production of DHT Hormone, but eating well will help to boost your general health and provide the nutrients for new hair growth. A normal diet should be balanced and include plenty of amino acids, essential fatty acids, vitamins and minerals. Some research into natural remedies has suggested that including Pumpkin Seed Oil, in particular, can help the body to reduce the amount of DHT Hormone produced.

In severe cases some people may choose to go down the route of hair plug or graft surgery. Despite the fact that most people find the operation to be almost pain free, it is an expensive option and may not be successful.

One of the most powerful options in dealing with DHT Hormone is to use a DHT Blocker or DHT Inhibitor.

A DHT Hormone blocking system typically involves a foam or lotion which is applied topically, to the scalp.

This is a simple way to reduce the effects of DHT Hormone on the hair follicles and encourage new hair growth.

Most DHT Hormone systems include a specially formulated shampoo to help provide nutrients to the hair to create strength from within, while cleansing away the unwanted build up of DHT Hormone from the scalp. People using DHT Hormone blocking products on a daily basis see noticeable results within six months of starting treatment.
